Athletic programs serve as rallying points connecting students with their community.

They instill pride and teach life-long character skills to student-athletes. Paradigm Charter School doesn't have one - yet.

Paradigm has been a part of Erath County since the Texas Legislature created and provided funding for charter schools in the state.

After 12 years, Paradigm has been unable to make way for the addition of athletics and physical education to its curriculum and program.

"Athletic programs are often the last thing to be added to charter schools," Principal Elissa Crouch said.

Athletic programs offer many benefits to students including creating a sense of belonging and building character traits, Crouch said.

With an operating budget more than two-thirds less than traditional public schools, Paradigm is working to raise money to begin an athletic program of its own.

On Saturday, March 26, a Christian concert will take place on the Dr Pepper Stage in Dublin from 3-7:30 p.m. The concert is free and the school will hold raffles throughout the afternoon for an Ovation acoustic electric guitar and other prizes. Tickets are $2 each and concessions will also be available.

The very next weekend, Paradigm will host a golf tournament at Par Country Club in Comanche.

Registration is $60 which includes green fees, golf cart and lunch.

If your swing is perfect, make sure to land a hole-in-one on hole 16. Anyone who manages to do so will win $10,000.

Prizes to winning teams include Calloway golf clubs and autographed sports memorabilia.

For more information about the golf tournament call Paradigm at 445-4844. For more information about the concert, call Adam at (254) 679-1472.
