Kids listen up!

Santa will be on hand with one of his reindeer on Thursday, Dec. 6, at the Stephenville City Park. That's right… a real live reindeer from the North Pole, and if you'd like, you can have a picture made with them.

Eat, drink and be merry from 6 to 8 p.m. and it's all free, sponsored by SPARD.

What an evening of Christmas fun for the entire family. Activities include: horse drawn carriage rides, Giant Christmas Card Contest, Christmas Tree Decorating Contest, Childrens' Coloring Contest, North Pole Mail Center and musical/dance entertainment by various entertainers.

Brenda Brown, recreation superintendent, said the event is designed to relieve some of the expense burden experienced at this time of year.

“It's a free night of fun,” Brown said. “It's a way to keep costs down for families.”

Stephenville Senior Citizens will provide free hot chocolate, spiced tea and cookies for the event.

The Santa and reindeer picture is $2 and benefits Project Graduation.

Entries in the decorated artificial tree contest must be delivered to the Birdsong Amphitheater by noon on Dec. 6. After the contest, the trees will be donated to families in need in the community.

Deadline for the Giant Christmas Card Decorating contest is the same but remember the card should be made of two four-by-eight foot sheets of plywood hinged together and decorated for the season.

Brown said judging will be based on artistic ability and creativity.

The coloring contest is for all children; Pre-K through fourth grade and pictures can be picked up at the Recreation Department office.
