A Stephenville resident was killed in a single-car accident that occurred around 5 p.m. Wednesday on Highway 67 just outside of Stephenville. According to Trooper Bradley Couch, with the Texas Department of Public Safety, Samuel Allen Bratton, 18, was pronounced dead at the hospital. Couch said the accident was the result of slippery roads coupled with unsafe speed. Bratton was traveling alone when he lost control of his vehicle and slammed into a tree. He was ejected from the car and the vehicle was bisected on impact. Emergency personnel from Erath County Volunteer Fire Rescue responded to the scene. One firefighter was injured as he attempted to remove the vehicle’s windshield to determine if there were any other occupants in the car. Couch said the firefighter suffered a severe laceration and sliced a tendon.
