With the crumpled wrapping paper and wrinkled ribbons of Christmas past now carted off to the dump, your next load of holiday trash is more likely to contain the remnants of your New Year's celebration.

The city of Stephenville is reminding residents that trash collection schedules will be adjusted for the upcoming holiday, with no pick up on New Year's Day.

Thursday customers will have their trash collected at the regular time, but Friday customers will be serviced on Saturday.

And remember, don't leave your Christmas trees at the curb. The city's annual Christmas Tree Recycling Program will be held 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday at Optimist Jaycee Park. As an added bonus, the first 200 participants will receive a free seedling plant.

Don't cram those cans into your polycarts. Remember, Erath Iron Metal recycles metals including aluminum and soup and vegetable cans. The recycling yard is located between Stephenville and Dublin on County Road 378. For more information and hours of operation call 254-968-6401.

Environmentally friendly consumers are also being reminded that recyclables, including cardboard, catalogs and other paper products can be taken to Tarleton State University's Recycling Center at the university farm at 1949 CR 518 in Stephenville. The center will be closed for the holidays, but will reopen Jan. 4.  For more information, call the center at  968-9253.
