Students at Stephenville High School have come together this year to recognize and aid one of their own - Lindsey Lozano.

Lozano, who is well-known at the school, suffers from severe spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy and the SHS Student Council will host the first Rudolph's Reindeer 5K run and 1-mile Frosty Walk in December to benefit their classmate.

"Most of the (high school students) know (Lindsey) really well," SHS Student Council vice president and project chairman Emilie Woerner said. "We chose her (as a beneficiary of the project) because everyone knows who she is and has had classes with her. She has had an impact on everyone because she has gone through so much. If she can always have a smile on her face then we can too."

All proceeds from the run, which is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 4, will benefit Lozano.

Woerner said the project began as a way to raise funds for the Student Council but quickly evolved into a larger event in honor of a dear classmate, something she and other student volunteers hope results in a large turnout.

"It would be neat for people to show up and let (Lindsey's) family know how big of an impact she has had on Stephenville High School," Woerner said.

While the event is several weeks away, Student Council members are turning to the community for support.

"We need sponsorships - if people feel like their company wants to sponsor us they can call the high school and we will send someone over to give them a sponsorship packet," Woerner said. "Every little amount counts, we are just trying to get this up and running."

In addition to financial sponsorships, Woerner said event organizers also need bottled water, ice and coolers.

The 5K and 1-mile fun run will both start at the high school and travel through the Tanglewood neighborhood before ending back at SHS.

Prizes will be awarded to first and second place participants in the men's and women's categories and to first through third place for boys and girls 12 and under.

The student council is currently accepting registration for the event. Early registration for the 5K is $25 and $30 for late registration or the day of. Early registration for the 1-mile fun run is $15 and late registration is $20. The early registration deadline is Nov. 26.

All early registrations will be guaranteed a T-shirt.

Registration forms are available by calling or dropping by Stephenville High School and on the SHS Student Council Web page, which can be found at

"We need people to sign up and show up and give support to Lindsey," Woerner said.
