It’s been a little more than a year since the unexpected death of Larry Wand, the chief investigator for the Erath County Sheriff’s Office, sent a shock wave of grief across the community.
Today, Wand’s family and friends are remembering him in a meaningful way by establishing the Lawrence Ray Wand Memorial Law Enforcement Scholarship Endowment at Tarleton State University.
“This is an opportunity for anyone who was touched in some way by Larry to get on board and make it possible for students who have the same passion and commitment that Larry had to make law enforcement their full time career,” said Lana Walker, a friends of Wand’s.
Those interested in making a donation to the fund will have an opportunity to do so during the July 4th celebration at Stephenville City Park Saturday, where a booth offering an obstacle course, frog toss and hamburgers for sale will be set up.
Lynne Whitehead was a friend of Wand’s for years and worked at his body shop.
“This permanent endowment will ensure that Larry’s legacy will continue to prosper and grow in the town he called home and in Erath County,” Whitehead said.
Donations to the endowment can also be made by check or credit card. Mail donations to: Office of Development, Box T-0260, Stephenville, TX 76402. Checks should be made payable to Tarleton State University and designated to the Larry Wand scholarship fund.
