The color pink has special powers during the month of October. And no two women know that better than Nancy Stamp and Shelby Nance, owners of Freak Show Salon and Mini-Spa in Stephenville.
During October, Freak Show will install pink hair extensions for $5 a pop, with all proceeds going to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
“We call it our ‘Save the Boobs’ campaign,” Stamp said.
This year marks the second annual Save the Boobs campaign for Freak Show, which opened in July 2008. With a new year came new goals for the business as well.
“It was one of the first things we did last year and it is amazing. We decided to do a raffle (this year) and see if we could raise additional funds,” Stamp said.
Last year, Freak Show raised $1,500 for the fight against breast cancer. This year, the goal has been raised to $2,000.
The raffle tickets, which are also $5 each, are for a multi-colored foil highlight, haircut and facial from the salon.
Stamp, who was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 19, said saving the lives of women who support her business and promoting awareness about the disease is the main goal of Freak Show’s campaign.
“We are a business that survives by the grace of women. They keep us going and it is women’s lives we are out to protect,” she said.
Freak Show is located at 2180 South Loop in Stephenville. For more information, call the salon at (254) 968-2108.
