It was the young rodeo athletes of Erath County who showcased their skills and what they are made of over last weekend's Texas High School Rodeo Association “Red Hot Region III” rodeo held at Lonestar Arena.

The THSRA production hosted the fourth and fifth rodeo of the season constituting two consecutive days of competition. With 532 contestants on Saturday and 518 contestants on Sunday, the THSRA production attracted some tough competition, but Stephenville youth showcased their skills for the Region III contest.

Saturday's Rodeo No. 4, for the THSRA season, saw Stephenville contestants place consistently in the top 15 in every event but three. The breakaway roping saw Erath county contestants place in all age divisions-most notably the youth breakaway division with 11 of the top 15 hailing from Stephenville area.

Dublin's Aaron Callaway won the junior calf roping event with an 11.014 and Garrett Busby followed with in second with a 12.016 and Trevor Hedeman finished fifth with a 23.221.

The senior team roping partners of Lane Hedeman and Randall Eggemeyer put a 6.483 spin on their steer to win first. The junior team roping combination of Trevor Hedeman and Dalton Shaw scored fourth with a 22.384.

In junior boys' goat tying, Marty Yates took first place with a 10.763 and Aaron Callaway followed with second of an 11.843 time. Jayci Miller, qualifier to the NHSRA finals this last June, took home first in the senior girls' goat tying with an 8.843. The youth goat tying was equally impressive with five of the top 15 in the youngest age division from Stephenville placing.

With only eight contestants in the chute dogging event, three were from Stephenville-Marty Yates took home top honors with a 7.264 time followed by Garrett Busby and Aaron Callaway, in sixth and seventh place respectively.

The young cowgirls of Erath county all placed in the timed events in all age divisions- Cheyenne Britain, Katie Keith, Lariat Larner, and Sarah Callaway in youth pole bending; Jocelyn Lewis and Kylee Brooks in junior pole bending and Jayci Miller and Elyse Busby in senior pole bending. Always tough barrel racing contestants of Elyse Busby, Whitney Green, Kylee Brooks, Jocelyn Lewis, Tallen Halliday, Sarah Callaway, Cheyenne Britain, and Skylar Chipman and Denton Halford all earned top 15 placings for the day.

The second rodeo of the weekend for THSRA, Rodeo #5, brought equally impressive results from area contestants. Six contestants took home first place checks for the day-Elyse Busby in senior barrels within 15.324 time; Twister Brown and Cheyenne Britain in youth team roping with a 32.936; Kylee Brooks in junior pole bending and Marty Yates in junior boys' goat tying with a 11.540; Garrett Busby in junior boys' breakaway with a 1.876. Again, the youth breakaway was tough and six of the top 15 call Stephenville home.
