The Stephenville Optimist Club is once again sponsoring the local Optimist International Essay Contest.

Historically Stephenville, Dublin and Huckabay participants have made presentations in this annual competition.

This year’s essay topic is “I Want to Make a Difference because…”

The contest is open to any student who is under the age of 19 as of Dec. 31, 2006. The deadline for submission of the essay and the entry form is Feb. 9, 2007.

The top three local contestants will be selected by a team of judges from the Tarleton State University faculty and recognized at a subsequent local Optimist Club luncheon. These finalists will be awarded medals from the local club and will have the opportunity to read their essays at the club luncheon.

The local winner will advance to the district competition and compete for a $650 college scholarship. Each district winner’s essay is automatically entered into the International Essay Competition and will compete for a $6,000 scholarship for 1st place, $3,750 for 2nd place, and $2,250 for 3rd place.
