In less than 24 hours, the polls will open to allow voters an opportunity to voice their choice on 11 proposed amendments to the Texas Constitution. Early voting begins Monday and will continue through Friday, Oct. 30.
The Texas Constitution was enacted in 1876 and more than 630 proposed amendments to the governing document have been presented to voters, 176 of which were defeated.
Early voting will be held at the Erath County Courthouse from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays.
Since Erath County was again chosen to participate in the pilot program for countywide election precincts, voters can cast their Election Day ballot on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at any of four polling places, including the Erath County Courthouse, TexasBank, Embarq and the courthouse annex in Dublin.
Applications for a ballot by mail must be received by the county clerk’s office by Tuesday, Oct. 27.
Historical background and summaries of each of the amendments can be reviewed in the “Analyses of Proposed Constitutional Amendments” compiled by the Texas Legislative Council. The 60 page document is available online at http://www.tlc.state.tx.us/pubsconamend/pubsconamend.html.
