Folks at the Foster's Home for Children are celebrating a record-breaking year after raising more than $78,000 Saturday during the home's annual auction.

"We blew it out of the water this year," said Lacy Barton, vice president of development.

Barton said the auction had 340 registered bidders who bid on everything from boats and cars to tools, furniture and gift baskets.

The home raised $60,000 during last year's event.

Barton praised businesses and individuals who helped make this year's event the greatest ever.

"We especially want to thank the guys of Kappa Delta Rho who volunteered their time to set up and worked all day Saturday," she said. "They really helped the event run smoothly."

Proceeds from the auction are used to purchase clothing, educational needs, counseling and healthcare to the 54 children who live on campus.
