BURLESON - Stephenville scored touchdowns on its first four possessions and held Fort Worth O.D. Wyatt to 48 yards of total offense in the first half of a 53-13 victory in the Region I Bi-District round of the Class 4A Division II state football playoffs at Burleson Stadium Thursday.

Stephenville advances to the area round of the postseason at 7:30 p.m. next Friday at Northwest High School in Justin. The Yellow Jackets will oppose the winner of tonight's match-up between Wichita Falls Rider and Springtown.

Kody Spano of Stephenville completed 9 of 15 first half passes for 225 yards and four touchdowns. The scoring passes covered 80, 57, 14 and 25 yards.

Both Cody Davis and Brad Mills sat out for Stephenville, resting injuries suffered in the regular season. The Yellow Jackets lost leading tackler Colton Diffie to a knee injury in the second quarter. Fifth-year Stephenville Head Coach Chad Morris said he expects Mills and Davis both to play next week, but did not yet know the status of Diffie.

The Yellow Jacket defense set the pace with a three-and-out on the opening possession, and Trey Taylor returned the first Wyatt punt 30 yards to set their offense up at the Chaparral 32.

It took only six plays for Stephenville to get on the board from there. Dakota Mathis punched the ball across the goal line from one yard out, and German Chavarria added the first of his six extra points.
