The deadline for the Wednesday, July 15 edition of the Empire-Tribune will come before the results are available from Tuesday’s Republican Primary Runoff Election for Texas House of Representatives in District 59, but they will be posted online that night.
The Empire-Tribune (www.yourstephenvilletx.com) will post the local voting totals online when they are available.
Voting continued through 7 p.m. Tuesday, (July 14) at the four voting locations (Erath County Courthouse, Texas A&M Agrilife Research and Extension Center and Texas Bank in Stephenville, and the County Annex Building in Dublin.
The District 59 race for Texas House of Representatives is between Erath County businesswoman and attorney Shelby Slawson and the incumbent, J.D. Sheffield of Gatesville. No Democrat or Independent candidates filed to run for that office, so the winner of that runoff will effectively decide the District 59 representative.
The Primary Runoff Election was originally set for May 26, but Gov. Greg Abbott’s COVID-19 pandemic proclamation postponed it.
In the March Republican Primary, Slawson received 46 percent in the voting and Sheffield had 30 percent, making the runoff necessary.
District 59 includes Erath, Somervell, Comanche, Coryell, Hamilton, McCulloch, Mills and San Saba counties.
