Katie Campbell is Stephenville High School’s 2020 valedictorian.
A lifetime Honeybee, Campbell attended Stephenville ISD from Kindergarten through 12th grade.
She said she was inspired to do well in school as a freshman, when she was watching the then valedictorian give her speech.
“She was a band kid and that inspired me to keep that tradition up,” she said.
Campbell played flute and piccolo in band and was section leader for three years.
One of her favorite memories of high school involved a band pool party.
“I have very fond memories of sitting in the hot tub just talking at 9:30,” she said.
She was involved in academic UIL, National Honor Society, WIT (Workforce Industry Training) and POWERSET (Powerful Opportunities for Women Eager and Ready for Science, Engineering and Technology.)
Campbell said her biggest personal accomplishment was when she went to state in UIL ready writing during her junior year; she received fourth place.
Her favorite subject in school was science, specifically chemistry.
“It’s been a lifelong fascination,” she said. “I remember being a little kid and thinking, ‘I'll like science when I get to chemistry’ and I was right.”
After graduation, Campbell will be attending the University of California in San Diego and majoring in pharmacological chemistry.
“I've had many people telling me they wanted me to [become the valedictorian during] high school so it feels good to finally be able to say, ‘I AM the valedictorian,’” she added.
