On Sunday, May 24, 2020, at approximately 1:05 p.m., Stephenville Police responded to 1505 Lingleville Rd. for a shooting involving two adult males.

Upon arrival, officers secured the scene and located one person with a gunshot wound to the arm.

The victim received medical attention at the scene before being transported to Harris Methodist Hospital for a non-life-threatening injury. The victim was released from the hospital on Sunday.

The Stephenville Police Department determined that the shooting was the result of a road rage incident between occupants of two vehicles.

“My understanding was this began as a traffic issue. There was some back and forth, honking and brake checking,” said Jason Halsey, assistant chief of police.

Halsey indicated that the reason no arrest has been made is because “this is a very complicated and complex case. We want to make sure we get this right. It’s important to note that neither one knew each other.”

He also said police have a video of the incident.

“My understanding is it does clearly show what happened,” he said.

Halsey said both parties have been identified and that names will be released at an appropriate time.

The Stephenville Police Department is continuing to investigate the series of events that lead to this incident and are currently still speaking with witnesses.

Halsey noted, “This is not a common occurrence at all in Stephenville.”

He also indicated that there is no continuing threat to public safety and that this was an isolated incident.

The Stephenville Police Department asks that if anyone witnessed or has information regarding this incident to please contact the department at 254-918-1273.
