The COVID-19 virus has stopped a lot of things — but it won’t prevent the community from honoring Stephenville High School’s senior Class of 2020 with a vehicle parade.

SHS Principal Stephanie Traweek has announced plans for what is being billed as the “2020 Senior Car Parade,” which will be Friday, May 15, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Family and friends can cheer the seniors as they make their way along the route.

The seniors will gather on the parking lot at Lem Brock Field, which is on West Fry Street near Henderson Junior High School. The parade route will run from Henderson on Fry over to North Wolfe Nursery Road, then head east on West Overhill Drive past the high school, then south on North Dale Avenue, then take a right on West Fry. The parade will also end at Lem Brock Field.

“We are so excited to be able to celebrate our seniors by honoring them with a parade,” Traweek said. “This is a time for family, friends, teachers and the Stephenville community to come out to show support for the senior class of 2020.”

Students and their families are encouraged to decorate their own vehicles for the parade. No trailers will be allowed in the parade.

Social distancing will be observed “at all times,” and everyone is being asked to “please remain in your vehicle before and during the parade.”

The SHS calendar shows May 28 as the last day of school (with online classes only because of COVID-19), and May 29 as graduation day.
