The Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame has announced its 2020 class of Inductees. Among them are the 1969-71 Tarleton State NIRA Women’s Rodeo Teams that included Karen Walls, Sally Preston, Angie Watts Averhoff, Vicki Higgins Emerson, Connie Wilkinson Wood, Sharon Harrison Youngblood and Martha Tompkins Jordan, along with more than a dozen top Texas cowboys and cowgirls.

The 1969, 1970 and 1971 Tarleton State College women’s teams accomplished a feat never equaled and, given the level of competition today, will probably never be duplicated. They were the NIRA National Champions three consecutive years – 1969, 1970 and 1971. These teams and individuals also won numerous Southwest Region event and team championships. All are college graduates and native Texans and still reside in Texas. These ladies were the first inductees in the Tarleton State University Rodeo Hall of Fame (2012). They were also inducted in the Stephenville Walk of Fame (2000). All are active in their communities and the Tarleton Rodeo Alumni Chapter.

The Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame has worked for more than 45 years to preserve the history of Texas rodeo.

The Hall of Fame is located in Fort Worth’s Historic Cowtown Coliseum, where more than 500,000 people a year visit the Hall. Currently there are over 300 photos and biographies on display of the many World Champions from Texas.
