Polls opened bright and early Tuesday, beckoning would-be voters to the Erath County Courthouse and Dublin Annex to cast a ballot in the primary election.

“I am expecting a really large turnout,” County Clerk Gwinda Jones told the E-T last week. “People are very interested in these races.”

Local races that have generated local headlines include the race for state representative of District 59 - incumbent Dr. J.D. Sheffield and challengers Shelby Slawson and Cody Johnson - and the race for sheriff with incumbent Matt Coates facing a challenge from Kent Howell.
