If you love challenges and solving clues, then it's time to get a team together for the Amazing Meals on Wheels Race that will take place from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, April 4.
Inspired by the reality television show, “The Amazing Race,” 15 teams of two to three people will compete in at least seven challenges in a race across Erath County.
“We wanted to do something that was going to be fun for everybody in the community and that involved all of Erath County,” said Elizabeth Johnson, executive director of MOWEC. “You don't have to be super athletic and you don't have to be a super problem solver. We love ‘The Amazing Race' and thought that went along with what we do for Meals on Wheels, racing around Erath County and serving meals to everybody."
Teams will earn points on the amount of money raised and how they finish.
“The team that raises the most money before the event will get a head start, then they can earn things as they go through the challenges and they can earn additional points,” Johnson said. “It's hard to tell you too much in advance because I don't want to give it away.”
A donation site for each team will be available online where sponsors can donate money to the team of their choosing.
The team finishing with the highest number of points will win and receive a trophy and cash prize.
The race will start and finish at Hearsay Wine Bar where the race will be live-streamed as teams compete, thanks to Flight Reach Productions.
“We're excited that Hearsay Wine Bar is going to be a part of it,” Johnson said. “It's a hot new site and they have an outdoor patio that's going to be really great and they're going to put in some more TVs for watching.”
Participants must be 12 and over, one vehicle per team is required and at least one member of the team must be over 21.
Teams must have a team name and are encouraged to have a team T-shirt or costume.
A $100 entry fee is required and all proceeds will go directly to Meals on Wheels of Erath County.
“What I'm really the most excited about is that I think it's just going to be a fun fundraiser for Erath County,” Johnson said. “Our goal is to put the ‘fun' back in fundraising.”
