The Erath County Sheriff’s Office is selling T-shirts to raise money for its Explorer Program designed to prepare young adults for a career in law enforcement.

“It’s a career-development program for students ages 14 through 20, where they learn every aspect of law enforcement,” said Deputy Scott Daily who heads up the effort. “It’s kind of like a pre-academy setting, preparing them for the real academy.”

The T-shirts are being sold for $20.

Proceeds will be used to help participants take part in competitions.

Members of the Explorer Program meet every other Tuesday evening at the sheriff’s office and the cost to participate is free.

“They learn about patrol procedures, crime scene investigations and other things we do on a regular basis,” Sheriff Matt Coates said.
