A longtime Stephenville resident is in critical condition following a two-vehicle accident on Washington Street Sunday evening.

Michelle Jones, 78, was transported by air to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth with a traumatic brain injury.

She was undergoing surgery on Monday to try and stop bleeding on the brain.

“She is still in critical condition,” her daughter Jennifer Fornes told the E-T on Monday. “She hasn’t opened her eyes, but she is breathing 50 percent on her own. She has moved her feet and squeezed my hand a little and can shake her head ‘yes’ and ‘no.’”

Jones was attempting to turn into Sonic on the west end of town about 5 p.m. Sunday when she failed to yield the right-of-way, according to Lt. James Gresham with the Stephenville Police Department.

“She turned in front of a Chevy Impala and was T-boned,” Gresham said.

The driver of the Impala, 83-year-old Stephenville resident Jimmy Pair, was transported to Texas Health Stephenville with minor injuries,

“It was a horrible accident,” Gresham said. “That’s a busy spot and we urge everyone to use caution when they are traveling in that area.”
