The number of entrants for the upcoming 2020 Junior Livestock Show of Erath County is up significantly over last year, according to committee member Brandon Manning, the new show manager.

“Actually it’s up about 20 percent from last year,” Manning said of the four-day event, which will start on Jan. 8 and conclude on Jan. 11 at the Erath County Livestock Association’s Show Barn on 2389 FM 205 (Lower Granbury Road). “Swine, dairy and poultry probably had the largest increases.”

Entrants ranging from as young as 9 years old, to high school seniors will be competing. The show will include 4-H members from Stephenville, Dublin, Lingleville, Huckabay, Bluff Dale and Three Way schools.

Manning said that by this year’s deadline, there were 690 entries, compared to 587 for last year’s event.

He also noted that several improvements have been made to the facility. That includes adding 10 new swine pens, as well as increasing the size of the show ring area.

“We’re trying to make it more of a public event (for spectators),” Manning said of the overall show. “We’ve got a bunch of internal changes. We almost doubled the size of our committee.”

Spectators are always welcome to attend, with no admission charge.

Also, starting next fall, there are plans to bring back the buyers’ dinner, which had been discontinued the last couple of years. The location for the buyers’ dinner, probably next September, has not been determined.
