It didn’t take long for community members to show up for the popular Christmas dinner hosted each year by Graham Street Church of Christ.
Residents donned their favorite Christmas sweater to participate in the holiday spirit and took part in the delicious feast that included turkey, dressing, green beans, yams, cranberry sauce, rolls and gingerbread on Wednesday.
In fact, the food is the favorite part of the dinner for residents Lila and Ronnie Chaney.
“We’ve been coming here every year since it started,” Lila said. “We get to see our Christian friends.”
“And visit people we don’t see very much anymore,” Ronnie added.
Candy canes were left on the tables for children and drawings for gift boxes took place every 15 minutes.
Darrell and Kim Tucker are house parents with Foster’s Home for Children and this was their first time coming to the Christmas dinner.
“The church here supports the children’s home and we’re a part of the church and we just became a part of this congregation last week,” Darrell said. “We’re here helping out and stopped for a break to eat.”
Charlene Barrier said she loves the Christmas dinner because of “the people, the generosity and everybody’s happy.”
“I’ve been here three years. I love it. Thank y’all for the invitation. We greatly appreciate it,” she said.
