They say the best underwear jokes are brief.
But police aren’t laughing about a case involving a man allegedly nabbing women’s underwear from the laundry room at Creekside Townhomes.
Lt. James Gresham with the Stephenville Police Department said women washing clothes in the on-site laundry room began noticing that their underwear was disappearing.
Some cleverly positioned security cameras caught the alleged thief in action, but police haven’t been able to identify him.
“This is an unusual case,” Gresham said Monday. “We understand this can be disturbing for women and we don’t want to overly-alarm anyone. This suspect isn’t tied to any other crimes.”
Gresham said the suspect doesn’t appear to be a resident of Creekside Townhomes.
He was caught twice on surveillance cameras - Nov. 17 and Nov. 24 - entering the laundry room where he proceeded to open dryers, pull out the underwear and sniff them.
He then moved to a washing machine and rifled through the wet clothes.
In all, he got away with 15 pairs from two victims who reported the incident to police.
Gresham is asking the public for help identifying the suspect.
The suspect’s car appears to be a dark color 4-door sedan.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Erath County Crime Stoppers at 254-965-CASH.
