A fundraiser for Stephenville resident Lisa Bradshaw who is currently battling ovarian cancer is set for 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, at the Greenwood Saloon in Bluff Dale.

Bradshaw, 50, was diagnosed with metastatic ovarian cancer in 2007. She was cancer free until she was diagnosed again in August 2018.

She received chemotherapy and underwent surgery. Her doctors thought the cancer was gone but it continued to grow and has caused health issues requiring more procedures, surgery and ongoing chemotherapy.

“She’s really battling with it now. This is actually her third go-round with cancer,” said friend Mary Castorena.

Castorena has known Bradshaw for 15 years and they met at Texas Neighborhood Services where Castorena was the director and Bradshaw was a teacher.

“She is a very sweet, kind lady,” Castorena said. “She was a fantastic worker, always pulling extra work to do or the first one willing to jump up and do extra work. She was always very caring to all of the coworkers. Everybody that meets her falls in love with her. Everybody likes her.”

Bradshaw is originally from Hamilton but has lived in Stephenville for 25 years and worked at the Stephenville Public Library for a few years.

There is a $10 cover at the door. The benefit will include a live auction and catering by Hard Eight BBQ for $15 a plate.

Live music will be performed by Phil Hamilton, Zack Pack & Jackie Darlene, Sean Craddock & Steve Norris, Buck Fuffalo & Billy Hartman, Kerri Lick, Hayden Huse, Doug Rose & Ed Ogle and Steve Woods & Jaeden.

Donations can be made to Lisa Bradshaw Fundraiser at InterBank.

“I’m just amazed at all of the generosity. Almost everybody that we have reached out to has given something and it makes me feel good to live in a community that’s there to help people,” Castorena said. “A lot of communities aren’t like Stephenville; they don’t help like Stephenville does.”
