Two people are behind bars after investigators with the Erath County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at a residence in the 2000 block of E. Washington Street on Wednesday and recovered $7,000-$10,000 in stolen property.

Authorities sought the warrant because they had identified a burglary suspect who lived at the residence, Lt. Ben Moore said.

Investigators recovered four guns, hunting equipment and several items that were stolen in car burglaries including a $3,600 Louis Vuitton purse.

“We believe these recovered items were taken in more then 15 burglaries throughout Erath and Comanche counties,” Moore said.

Two people inside the residence were taken into custody after investigators found methamphetamine inside the residence.

James Brown, 42, and Janelle Stephens, 41, were charged with possession of a controlled substance and are each being held on a $10,000 bond at the Erath County Jail.

In 2018 Stephens was also charged with criminal negligence for abandoning/endangering a child.

Moore said additional suspects are expected to be charged in connection with the burglaries.

If you believe a stolen item belonging to you may have been recovered, call Lt. Moore at 254-965-3338.

The Comanche County Sheriff’s Office and Stephenville Police Department assisted in Wednesday’s execution of the search warrant.
