A 92-year-old Erath County man died Monday in a grassfire after his truck became stuck in a field on FM 2481 near the community of Pony Creek.

Captain Jeremy Woodruff said Leroy Worrell was out checking his cows when his truck became stuck.

“The call came in as a grassfire, but when fire crews arrived on scene they found a truck in the burn area and discovered a man inside who was deceased,” Woodruff said. “We believe he was trying to get the truck out when the catalytic converter started the fire.”

Woodruff said the incident has been ruled accidental and no foul play is suspected.
