Stephenville is losing another big retailer in the Bosque River Center.

Bealls is set to close with a new store - Gordmans - opening in its place.

The Houston-based Stage Stores, Inc., which owns Bealls, acquired Gordmans Stores Inc. in a bankruptcy auction in 2017, according to Business Wire.

An employee with Bealls who asked not to be named describes Gordmans as being similar to “a Ross or TJ Maxx.”

The employee said that Bealls will close its makeup and fragrance counters by Nov. 31 to begin the transition to Gordmans, which is expected to be complete next year.

“The company doesn’t want us to say too much, but one thing that will be different is that (Gordmans) will have a bigger home goods department,” the employee said.

The employee also said the company is expected to keep all of its current staff.

In 2016, Hastings closed its doors in the Bosque River Center followed by JC Penney in 2018.

Anytime Fitness is also set to move out of the Bosque River Center and into a new location soon.

An email to Bealls’ corporate office has not been returned.
