A groundbreaking ceremony for Stephenville High School and Gilbert Intermediate construction projects will take place at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14.

A prep area will be set up adjacent to the football practice area inside of the construction fencing.

There will be several group photos with administration, the school board and a comprehensive photo of the community and citizens advisory board.

SISD Superintendent Matt Underwood said it’s “challenging but exciting” when asked how it feels to finally be breaking ground on these projects.

“It’s been over a year in the waiting - not a year in the making - a year in the waiting,” he joked.

A virtual tour of the new facility is also being constructed and teachers will be shown a sneak preview of the tour on Monday morning. Underwood said he hopes the virtual tour will be completed later next week.

“I've seen little pieces of it as they put it together. When you see it in action versus the pictures, it kind of brings it to life and it really makes it exciting.

“We are excited about the upcoming project and thankful to live in such a caring and supportive community,” he added.
