Craig Clifford and Casey Thompson will kick off the Pickers and Poets Songwriter Series at 7 p.m. this Friday, Dec. 7, at the Lookout Bar and Grill at Legends Golf Course.

Hosted by Clifford, co-editor of Pickers and Poets: The Ruthlessly Poetic Singer-Songwriters of Texas, the series will feature song swaps between Clifford and other area singer-songwriters.

“I guess you could call the series ‘Old Grouch and Young Sprouts’ since most of the songwriters I’ll swap songs with will be considerably younger than me,” Clifford said. “That’s part of the point, to say that Texas songwriting is being passed on to the next generation - and to showcase young songwriters from this area - well, young compared to me.”

Thompson is a singer-songwriter with three commercially available albums to his

credit. Down the Road was recorded in Austin with some help from Ray Benson from Asleep at the Wheel, Lloyd Maines, Max Stalling, Mary Cutrufello, T-Roy Miller and Flashpoint Studios.

Feel at Home was recorded in Fort Worth with help from Allen Evens, Stephen Watson, Gene Scott, Kyle Redd, Bodie Powell, Steven Lamb, and Larry Dillon. Thompson plays regularly in the metroplex and surrounding area with the Casey Thompson band.
