Sheriff Matt Coates is sore.

When the E-T contacted Coates on Monday about his upcoming gig with his wife Denys in Thursday’s Dancing for the Stars event, he said he was trying to work out the kinks.

”I am currently laying on my back with a tens unit (electric current treatment) on my back until I head back to work,” he said. “I will probably have to get a massage before Thursday to make it through.”

Matt and Denys Coates are among several couples competing in this year’s dance-off benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erath County.

Doors to the Christmas-themed event will open at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Tarleton ballrooms.

And the good news is, a few tickets are still available.

“We have about 20 left,” said BBBS Regional Executive Director Sarah Weaver.

Tickets are $135 and can be purchased by calling 254-485-9391 or from any of the dancers. They include a steak dinner, open bar, and of course, the chance to see five local couples vying for the coveted mirror ball trophy.

Other couples competing with the Coates include Ed and Cristi Dittfurth, Michael and Daniela Garrett, Jim Ed and Kari Haile and Abel and Cayla Limas.

The deadline to purchase tickets is 5 p.m. today (Wednesday).
