A new catering business owned by Jon Koonsman and his son Garrett is now open for business and taking orders just in time for the holidays.
Fat Mary’s specializes in all things smoked like brisket, ham, turkey and pork butt topped off with specialty sauces that include barbecue, chipotle and chimichurri.
“My parents owned a restaurant when I was growing up so I have been cooking all my life,” Jon told the E-T.
He and Garrett began cooking together as a hobby, catering events for family and friends, and have now decided to make it official by starting Fat Mary’s.
You might be wondering how in the world they came up with the name, and in true Koonsman fashion, the story is a funny one.
“I had a great-great aunt who was an old maid. I never met her, but everyone called her ’Fat Mary,’” Jon said. “I always said that if Fat Mary is eating something, then I’m eating it too.”
So the name stuck.
If you have’t finalized plans for your Thanksgiving Day feast, it’s not too late to place an order. Fat Mary’s will cook and deliver the meat right to your doorstep.
“We will be delivering next week for Thanksgiving all day Wednesday and Thursday morning,” Jon said.
