Amanda Atchison, a 9-1-1 dispatcher with the Stephenville Police Department, was recognized by the city council Tuesday for being honored by the North Central Texas Council of Government for her professionalism.
A letter to the agency nominating Atchison states in part, “Ms. Atchison enjoys helping others, and takes pride in the job that she does. She keeps a professional tone and remains courteous when taking calls or complaints from citizens…she plays a vital role in ensuring officer safety, and enhancing public safety in an incredibly demanding environment.”
The letter also describes a scene from February 2018 when Stephenville was hit with an ice storm and 9-1-1 calls surged 500%.
“(She) remained professional throughout the day and took it upon herself to contact Oncor every thirty minutes to report electric outages, oftentimes speaking to the same representative.”
Atchison has been a dispatcher with the SPD since May 2014.
Chief Jason King said he is proud of the honor.
“Amanda is a dedicated employee and this award highlights her work ethic and dedication to the community,” King said. “She is part of the talented staff we have at the PD.”
