Meals on Wheels of Erath County provides services that include home delivered meals and transportation for elderly residents, but did you know they also provide pet food?

“We know how important pets are for those living alone," said MOW Executive Director Elizabeth Johnson. "Having a companion is vital to emotional support for our clients and we want them to be able to keep their pet and not be worried about feeding them.”

Volunteers discovered that some clients were either going without their meal or sharing it with their pets to keep them fed.

In 2015, MOW was awarded a grant from Banfield Charitable Trust to help establish a pet food assistance program. The program focuses on supplementing food for one pet per household.

MOW depends on Erath county residents not only for pet food donations, kitty litter, toys and other pet needs, but for volunteers to deliver the food.

Donations and volunteers are always needed.
