The Bosque River Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas will hold its first meeting of the year at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at the first Presbyterian Church in Stephenville. Plans for the coming year will be discussed and reports will be given from the district workshop held in Wichita Falls on Sept. 8.
The program, “Edward Fayette Springer and Barbara Baccus Springer: Their Lives and Times” will be given by member Judith Moore D’Amico. Three members of Bosque River Chapter and two members of the Children of the Republic of Texas Bosque River Chapter are direct descendants of the Springers. Among other places, the Springers lived in Comanche County and their daughter, Orlena Springer Moore, was the matriarch of a large clan, many of whom still live in the area. The chapter has dedicated DRT Citizen of the Republic of Texas medallions to be placed on the Springer graves in Haskell, Texas.
To be eligible to join DRT one must be a woman who is a descendant of a man or woman who was in Texas prior to February, 1846.
