A long-standing program hosted by the Stephenville Police Department is now taking applications for new participants.
Residents interested in learning more about all aspects of the department can now sign up for the Citizen Police Academy.
“This is something we have been doing for many years,” said Police Chief Jason King. “The program has been around for a long time. It’s very important because it creates good relationships with the community we serve.”
The 10-week program will be held from 6-9 p.m. every Thursday from Aug. 23 through Nov. 1 at the police department.
The department’s new community resource officer, Jon Walden, is heading up the program.
“There will be a few changes this year,” Walden said.
Some of the topics that will be covered include training, communications, criminal investigations, DWI procedures, crime prevention, family violence and juvenile law.
The program is free to attend, but spots are limited.
“We are only taking 16 people,” Walden said.
The minimum age for enrollment is 21 and those who want to apply must live or work in Stephenville. The deadline to sign up is Monday, Aug. 13.
