There is a new deputy in town.

Nakita Duffield was sworn in as a deputy at the Erath County Sheriff’s Office on Monday, making her the second female deputy in the department.

“We are very excited that she is now a member of our team,” said Sheriff Matt Coates.

Duffield, 32, graduated from the law enforcement academy in Weatherford in May.

“This is my first job in law enforcement,” Duffield said. “A friend told me about an opening here and said I would like the people, and they were right, I do.”

Duffield is originally from Hawaii and has lived in Newcastle for the past several years.

She and her husband Joshua have three kids.

Duffield also served in the Army.
