If you’re a golfer and want to help raise money for a great cause, round up a team and sign up for the 5th annual Pits & Putts Golf Scramble event taking place from 11:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 1, at Legends Country Club.
“The SEF Pits & Putts tournament is always a lot of fun. Not only do teams get to enjoy golf, but the great food,” said Education Foundation Executive Director Mindy Wooley. “If you have not had the pleasure of experiencing this one-of-a-kind golf tournament there is still time.”
The four-person scramble is $300 per team and there are only two spots left. The proceeds will benefit the Stephenville Education Foundation, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing education and last year’s event raised more than $9,000.
“All the proceeds go directly back into the SISD classrooms in the way of innovative teacher grants,” Wooley said.
If you don’t want to play or cook, you can still show your support for the Education Foundation by coming out to watch the tournament. The public is invited.
“Last year was the first year we did the ‘Pits’ portion and that’s where we have individuals and businesses come out and cook whatever they want to get bragging rights and a peoples’ choice award,” said Education Foundation president Shelley Gilliland. “Ranger College makes metal art awards for us and every participant will get one. The peoples’ choice winner will have that engraved on the bottom of their award.”
Gilliland said they have one cooking spot left.
“Shane Pack and Lance Gilliland were our ‘People’s Choice’ winners last year and they promise to have something up their sleeves to hold on to the title this year,” Wooley said.
