A $25 million project will bring a new restaurant, 45,000 square foot retail center with 10,000 square feet of outdoor space and a 100-room hotel to Stephenville.
EG Tejas LLC, a company that Whataburger President and CEO Preston Atkinson and three other executives created last year, are behind the multi-million dollar development deemed Project Blue by SEDA, according to Executive Director John Hubbard.
“This project will create 120 full time jobs and 200 temporary jobs as the project is being built,” Hubbard said late Tuesday night following a marathon city council meeting.
The group is scheduled to close on the property, located on Wolfe Nursery Road and Washington Street, on Oct. 20.
“They purchased 17 acres on three pieces of property,” Hubbard said, adding that Wolfe Nursery Road will be extended south to accommodate the project.
Details about the restaurant have not yet been released, but it’s expected to open by October 2018. The hotel will open in 2019, according to Hubbard.
Sutton Turner, one of the representatives from Project Blue, addressed the council Tuesday and said the restaurant and retailer will be “named soon.”
