Check out some area happenings going on this Memorial Day weekend - and make it a good one!

1. Splashville opens for the summer

Starting Saturday, the community will be able to cool down from the hot Texas summer when Splashville opens for the season. The waterpark will be open from 12-6 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 1-6 p.m. Sunday with an after hours time from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. 2. STAR Council Give Back Event

Present a flyer while enjoying a meal at Chili’s for the STAR Council Give Back event taking place from 10:45 a.m.-10:30 p.m. Sunday. Chili’s will donate 10 percent of event day sales with each flyer presented and the STAR Council team will visit the restaurant from 5-7 p.m. for a meet and greet.

3. Memorial Night at the Races

A Memorial Night at the Races will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at 281 Speedway with free admission to all military personnel. Races start at 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the speedway. For more information call 512-801-3717.

4. Memorial Day Ceremony

In honor of Memorial Day, Turnbow-Higgs American Legion invites the public to attend a ceremony at 9 a.m. Monday at the American Legion Veterans Field of Honor located in West End Cemetery. The ceremony will include singing of the National Anthem, guest speaker Nathan Collier, laying of the wreath, a rifle salute and the playing of Taps by the Legion Honor Guard.

5. Learn about composting at Fossil Rim

If you’re interested in learning how to make your own compost, then head over to Fossil Rim for a free compost instruction from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday at the wildlife center in Glen Rose.
