The Stephenville City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to make Staci King the next city secretary.
She will officially begin her new role on July 10, just a few days before longtime city secretary Cindy Stafford retires.
King said Wednesday morning that she is excited to take on the new position.
“I love the people I work with and the community I work for,” she said.
King grew up in Dublin and graduated from Dublin High School in 2002. She and her husband, Jason, who is the city’s police chief, have three children.
King began her career with the city while attending Tarleton State University.
She began working part-time for the Stephenville Police Department in 2002, and in 2004 she was promoted to full time records clerk.
In 2012 King transitioned to City Hall where she worked as an administrative assistant for the community services and the public works departments.
Three years later she became the administrative assistant to the city administrator and city secretary.
The duties of city secretary are varied but among the most important are records management and public information.
“The city secretary is the official records keeper for the city,” King said. “I will work with the other directors and for the city council.”
King said Stafford has served as an important mentor in preparing for her new role.
“Cindy has been a great mentor,” King said. “I have some crazy big shoes to fill, but she has prepared me for the job.”
