The Stephenville Police Department, working with Tarleton State University police, is investigating two incidents of suspected hazing involving Tarleton students, which resulted in five people being taken to the hospital for alcohol poisoning.

“These two incidents are suspected of being initiation proceedings that were held by two intramural softball teams,” states a release from Stephenville police.

At 10 p.m. Thursday Stephenville police responded to a loud party complaint, which led to the discovery of a person in medical distress.

“A short time later SPD officers found a second person who was in medical distress as well,” states the release.

The two people were transported to the hospital by ambulance in serious condition.

Four individuals were arrested at the party.

Jansen Savage, 22, Brad Austin Rutherford, 21, and Channing Flatt, 21, were all three arrested for disorderly conduct and purchase/furnish alcohol to a minor.

Josue Garay, 21, was arrested for public intoxication.

“While Stephenville police officers were at the hospital investigating this incident, they learned of a separate party that occurred at another location,” states the release. “This party resulted in three additional people being taken to the hospital by private vehicle.”

In addition to Tarleton police, the SPD is working closely with the Erath County Attorney’s Office and the District Attorney’s Office and will release more information as it becomes available.
