The Stephenville High School Yellow Jacket Band and winterguard had more success over the weekend winning several awards.

The winterguard performed in their biggest, and last, competition of the year at the North Texas Colorguard Association Regional A championships in Lewisville placing ninth overall out of 47 teams.

“The guard moved up three places from their seeding and earned a third place medal in their round,” said SHS Director of Bands Michael Childs. “Senior guard member Debanhi Mendoza was awarded one of five scholarships by NTCA that night as well.”

The SHS Jazz Ensemble performed at the Tarleton State University Jazz Festival with five students earning outstanding musician awards.

Those students were:

Jett Tiner, alto saxophone Reese Wilson, tenor sax Canaan Harris, trombone Caden Goodman, guitar Nick McLatchy, trombone “Nick was also selected as the outstanding trombonist of the day,” Childs said.

The indoor percussion team also received a third place medal award at Red Oak High School.

The indoor percussion will perform at the NTCA Percussion Championships on April 8.
