Filing in the May election began Wednesday and Ed Dittfurth and Cole Parks are both up for another term on the Stephenville Independent School Board.
Both will seek re-election.
Dittfurth was elected to place 7 in May 2015.
“As a rookie there’s always a learning curve,” Dittfurth said. “So I am grateful for the patience the board has shown me.”
Dittfurth says he is proud to serve on a board that sets policies that benefit all students.
“Our superintendent really has a heart to serve all kids,” he said. “My goal is to be innovative and help all students, especially those who are economically disadvantaged. That just means so much to me.”
Parks was elected to place 6 in 2014.
One of the things he enjoys most about serving, he said, is being an advocate for lessening state and federal mandates.
One of the most important decisions he says the board has made was the one to hire Matt Underwood as the district’s superintendent.
“He has made great strides in bringing technology initiatives to Stephenville,” he said, citing the recent iPad rollouts. “We needed those things, that needed to happen.”
Another proud moment for Parks was when the district implemented the Core Values Initiatives - growth, relationships, initiative, integrity, personalization and excellence.
“As a board we spent a lot of time identifying the culture and values we wanted to exemplify,” Parks said. “Today those initiatives can be found at every school, and the students wear wristbands promoting it.
“Now we give awards at our school board meetings to those kids who exemplify those core values. It’s something I am very proud of.”
Packets to run for school board can be picked up at the administration building.
The deadline to file for a spot on the ballot is 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17.
