Just hours after Erath County commissioners voted to appoint Matt Coates as interim sheriff, at least five top ranking sheriff's officials including a captain, two sergeants and a lieutenant have been suspended without pay, according to a source who asked not to be named.

The source said the employees were called in individually to meet with Coates, Texas Rangers, commissioners and other county officials before their suspensions.
