Meals on Wheels of Erath County spent the day delivering angel tree Christmas gifts to around 100 clients.
The organization put up angel trees at the Stephenville Public Library and Senior Citizens Center and received a great response from the community.
“This is probably one of my favorite events. This is a good way for people who maybe want to support Meals on Wheels, but can’t come out to deliver,” said Executive Director of MOWEC Whitney Lee. “We literally have gifts coming out of our ears and it’s just great seeing the generosity of our community at large.”
A large group of volunteers gathered at the MOWEC office ready to play “Santa,” stocking up their vehicles with gift bags and boxes to be delivered all around the county.
“The staff of ECSC (Erath County Senior Citizens, Inc.) oversees the delivery of one hot meal, five days a week to about 200 home-bound clients,” the MOWEC website states. “Frozen meals are also sent to clients ahead of holidays such as July 4th, Thanksgiving and Christmas. In addition to home-delivered meals, ECSC also provides congregate meals, transportation, liquid nutritional supplements and referral services to eligible clients. We also have a food pantry and pet food assistance program available on a limited basis.”
