This week’s pet from Erath County Humane Society is a neutered male Blue Heeler named Oliver who ECHS Executive Director Diane McCoy says needs a cowboy or cowgirl with a pickup to take him places.

“He’s a year-and-a-half old; he’s been an outside dog his whole life but his owners moved into an apartment and couldn’t keep him. He’s friendly, sweet and gentle with other dogs, kids and livestock, so he’d make a good farm OR ranch dog,” McCoy says.

“His shots are current and he knows a few commands like ‘sit’ and ‘down’ and heelers are eager to please, so I think he could be trained very easily. He’s definitely a people dog, so somebody who wants a take-along buddy would be perfect for him.”

McCoy says he’s a very healthy dog and loves people and other dogs.

“A lot of dogs will go to the fence of the kennel and bark at other dogs, but he’s not like that. We haven’t had any trouble with him. He’s a good boy.”

So if you’re looking for a pet friend, Oliver’s waiting for you at the ECHS, as are a ton of other dogs and cats.

The shelter’s open from 1-5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Saturdays. For more information contact McCoy at 254-965-3247, or stop by the ECHS at 891 East Road in Stephenville.
