While they’re not siblings and can be adopted individually, our pets of the week - Opie and Harley - are kennel buddies and good friends.

According to Diane McCoy, executive director of the Erath County Humane Society, Opie is a male Shepherd mix about six or seven months old, and Harley is a Border Collie/Healer mix female who’s about four months old.

“They’re both sweet and very quiet for puppies, they don’t bark much and they’re playful and healthy,” she says. “They’ve both had their first two puppy shots with one more to go, but they will both need rabies vaccinations and Opie will need to be neutered and Harley will need spaying.”

ECHS employee Ricky Brenneman says they’re learning basic routines very well. "

They’re not fully kennel trained yet, but they’re trying," he said. "They're smart though; they know what to do when you say ‘Let’s go outside,’ things like that.

“They're at the perfect age for training, they’ve been wormed, are very clean and like I said, playful, sweet dogs.”

If you’d like to meet Opie and Harley or check out other animals at the ECHS, drop by the shelter at 891 East Road or call 254-965-3247 for more information.
