AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Authorities say state troopers have arrested six people outside the statehouse who had gathered to protest the election of Donald Trump as president.
Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Victor Taylor said Monday that the six are facing a variety of charges that include resisting arrest and assault on a public servant.
They range in age from 19 to 36 and all are Austin residents. They were part of a demonstration that drew at least 150 people Sunday evening.
Taylor says one of the six, a 34-year-old man, is accused of assaulting a Trump supporter who was part of a group that turned out in response to the demonstration.
Protests have been held in Austin, Dallas, Houston and other Texas cities since Trump was elected Tuesday.
