Come Eat, Inc. is a non-profit public charity that is a mobile soup kitchen that is now collecting food along with other goods to deliver to those in need this holiday season.

“The week of Thanksgiving, Monday and Tuesday, we deliver food and go from home to home. The reason we don’t do it on Thanksgiving is because the churches in the area have that covered,” Director of Come Eat LZ Harris said. “The following two-week period we do bundles, ask for any kind of toiletry donations from the community, and roll them in towels to be distributed in North Texas to the homeless.”

Come Eat is already off to a great start after the 4-H Club donated 120 canned goods for the cause.

The organization is assisted by private donations, but also gets help from the Cowboy Church of Erath County, Hard Eight BBQ, Jingle Bell Classic Roping, the 4-H Club and several other businesses and individuals.

“This Christmas we will once again be providing bed pillows and blankets,” Harris said. “Each pillow given out will include a pillow case with a scripture passage monogrammed on it. I go buy hotel quality, white pillow cases and then we ask for pillows from the community.”

Harris explained a little more about the Come Eat organization.

“It’s a little different than Meals on Wheels. We take a specific situation and lift that person up and we don’t expect people to stay with us long-term,” she said. “We want to literally lift everybody we work with up so that they become self-sufficient. We’re more of a bridge and we do what we have to do to make that person self sustaining.”

For those wishing to donate canned goods, Harris has set up blue donation buckets at the Empire-Tribune, the Fire Department (Station 2) and the Stephenville Police Department.

Anyone wanting to set up a donation bucket at their business or for more information, call Harris at 817-913-1235.

“Come Eat, Inc. wishes to express our appreciation to all that donate and help make it possible to bring light into the darkest areas,” Harris said.
